Robin Watkins is regarded as one of the most respected organizational accounting and strategic financial management executives in the industry. As a CPA, she has more than 20 years of experience conducting financial statement audits, SEC compliance reviews, internal controls and financial risk assessments.
Currently, Robin is Vice President of Finance and Accounting at United Way of the National Capital Area. She is involved in the day-to-day strategic decision making of the organization as a member of the leadership team. Robin also manages several key accounting and reporting functions within the organization, including budgeting, planning and forecasting; financial and regulatory reporting; internal controls and risk management; research and analysis; the procure-to-pay cycle; and compliance with contractual documents and government regulations.
In addition, she is the Chief Financial Officer and Corporate Director at Minority Equality Opportunities Acquisition Inc., a special purpose acquisition company (SPAC). As CFO of the only minority-led SPAC listed on NASDAQ, Robin oversees the company’s financial management, audit and operations accounting responsibilities, as well as M&A due diligence process. In addition, Robin played an integral role in raising more than $126 million during the IPO process.
Prior to MEOA, Robin held senior and mid-level positions at Deloitte and PwC. In these roles, she provided executive-level strategic planning and audit-readiness advice to federal agencies such as the U.S. Departments of Defense, Justice, Homeland Security and the U.S. Postal Service.
As a graduate of Drexel University in Philadelphia, Robin worked on Capitol Hill while studying for the CPA examine. After receiving her certifications in Maryland and Virginia, she started her career implementing Sarbanes-Oxley mandates for U.S. Airways, in addition to accounting and audit duties at the Association of Chartered Schools and NeighborWorks America.
Robin is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, the American Institute of CPAs and the National Association of Black Accountants. She is a Stocks and Stilettos Master Class instructor and a Sidwell Friends School development fund parent volunteer. Robin lives in Silver Spring, Maryland, with her teenage sons, Dylan and Kyle.
