(Washington, DC) – Today, Mayor Muriel Bowser, Deputy Mayor for Education Paul Kihn, and the Office of Out of School Time Grants and Youth Outcomes (OST Office) are excited to award $4.8 million in Summer Strong 2019 grants to 56 organizations that provide summer programming across the District. This allotment of funds will allow more than 5,000 District of Columbia youth access to free or low-cost safe and enriching opportunities to learn and grow during the summer months as a result.
“Through Summer Strong DC, we are committed to making meaningful investments in organizations that create and expand opportunities for young people across the District. As we work to close the achievement gap it is imperative that we find ways to support our youth during the school day and beyond normal school hours,” said Deputy Mayor for Education Paul Kihn. “We are honored to partner with the community-based organizations, United Way of the National Capital Area, Department of Human Services, and the DC Housing Authority to ensure all District youth have access to safe, healthy, and engaging programs that will equip them for a strong start to the school year.” Click here to read more.
