Labor & United Way Partnership

For more than 80 years, the American Federation of Labor and the Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO) and United Way have enjoyed a cooperative relationship through which state and local United Ways provide services to members of organized labor, their families and their communities, and organized labor provides donations, volunteers and advocacy for the social services safetynet.

Partnership and Community Services Network Mission
To build a stronger community by uniting workers in making a personal investment of time and resources in their communities through United Way.

The March 2016 Partnership Agreement Between United Way Worldwide and the AFL-CIO,

An Enduring Partnership to Advance the Common Good, declares as its principles the need for collective action to eliminate the root causes of social problems, shared values of community participation, a recognition that working people have the right to fair play and working conditions and the right to organize, and that diversity builds strength and effectiveness of both organizations.

For this reason, the AFL-CIO support and strongly endorse the United Way Workplace Campaigns and encourage you to consider a 2018 campaign for your Union. Building and growing community partnerships are vital in building power for working families and improving our communities. Together we can help those in real need now while we work to rebuild our economy for all.
