United Way NCA & Partners Build Playground

Oct 24, 2015

by United Way NCA

Through our annual United Way NCA Hometown Huddle event, we connect youth to opportunities to be healthy and active. This year, we teamed up with the Washington Redskins Charitable Foundation  and KaBOOM! for a very special event. Thanks to more than 150 volunteers and Washington Redskins alumni, on Saturday, October 24, we built a playground in a day! Now, youth in Oxon Hill, MD, will have a fun new place to play and just be kids.

There was no other playground within a 5 mile radius in this neighborhood, and because of this joint project, more than 1,800 children will have access to a new play space.

In addition to our registered volunteers, members of the community who saw our efforts stopped by to lend helping hands. It was all worth it to see the excitement of neighborhood kids whose eyes lit up when they saw the playground coming together. They were very eager for us to hurry up and finish so they could play.

We want to thank all of the partners and volunteers who made the playground a laughter-filled day of teamwork. This is just one step forward in our commitment to helping youth in our community to thrive. You can read more about our exciting day on the Washington Redskins Charitable Foundation website.
