How the Embassy of Canada and a Tree Lighting Celebration Helps United Way NCA Tackle Our Community’s Most Pressing Issues
Jun 18, 2020
United Way of the National Capital Area and the Embassy of Canada will co-host the 28th Annual La Soirée – a Holiday Tree Lighting Celebration to raise charitable contributions to tackle our community’s most pressing issues. As part of the event, the Embassy of Canada displays a holiday favorite, a Nova Scotia Balsam Fir for the tree lighting celebration.
As opposed to other coniferous and deciduous trees, the Balsam Fir showcases an impressive adaptability in a number of different environments ranging from alongside the slopes of mountains, stretched along the plains, or even towering in a swamp!
Aside from its natural beauty, the Balsam Fir embodies resilience – as is the case for countless communities across the globe. Communities, right here in the national capital area where United Way NCA is fighting for the health, education and financial stability for every person in our community.
As part of its health pillar, United Way NCA develops programs that help children and adults in our community thrive through an integrated approach to health and wellness that not only fights obesity but also creates good habits for life.
Under its education pillar, United Way NCA community commitment is to prepare 12,000 low-income middle school students to transition to high school. To perform at grade level and stay on track to succeed. United Way NCA invests in solutions that tackle many different problems encountered in our area’s school environments. Our programs target at risk middle school students by helping them stay in school, develop healthy and safe learning habits, and provide them with mentors. We invest in sustainable growth for our youth and the entire ecosystem surrounding them.
Through its initiatives under the financial stability pillar, United Way NCA is fighting to knock down financial barriers and help 100,000 area residents achieve financial stability. We’re investing in programs that will help individuals and families in the national capital area achieve what for many may seem impossible – living with enough financial resources and knowledge to build a foundation and a future.
The contributions raised from La Soirée will go towards helping United Way NCA continue its journey to improving the lives of those in the national capital area that need it most. By choosing to attend La Soirée or donating today, you join us on the frontline in ensuring that every student receives an equal education, every family has access to food, and every individual has the means to build a financially sustainable life.
