United Way NCA Celebrates Financial Empowerment Center Open House In Partnership With The Greater Washington Urban League

FEC Offers Free Financial Services to Washington DC Residents at the Marshall Heights Community Development Organization

WASHINGTON, D.C. (January 26, 2023) – United Way of the National Capital Area (United Way NCA), along with its partner, Greater Washington Urban League, hosted an open house celebration for the United Way NCA Financial Empowerment Center (FEC) in Washington DC at the Marshall Heights Community Development Organization. The FEC has been providing critical services virtually since 2019 to the residents of Washington, DC.

“United Way NCA’s goal for the Financial Empowerment Centers is to help area residents succeed over academic, social and economic barriers by providing financial training and workforce development to ultimately graduate them to business and home ownership and financial success,” said Rosie Allen-Herring, President and CEO, United Way NCA. “These centers help lift up individuals and put them on a path toward economic opportunity by offering access to high-quality financial services and guidance in a welcoming, professional environment at no cost.”

United Way NCA’s powerful network of five Financial Empowerment Centers (FECs) has a long-term goal of providing a path to small business and/or home ownership. Specifically, the FECs offer free services to help individuals and families advance on a path toward economic opportunity in a welcoming, professional environment. Individuals and families who have struggled to find solutions with traditional banks will have access to trusted resources in these centers to help them gain greater control over their personal finances.

“When our clients feel emotionally and financially overwhelmed, they can come to the Financial Empowerment Center to experience a support system that will get them on that path towards financial wellness,” said George Lambert, President and CEO, Greater Washington Urban League.

United Way NCA’s Financial Empowerment Center at the Greater Washington Urban League has designed a suite of services that puts community members in the driver’s seat to build a secure financial future and on a pathway to take control of their wealth-building by redefining and powering up their relationship with money.
