United Way of the National Capital Area’s Next-Gen leaders are redefining what it means to be a young professional in our region. They are emerging leaders who care deeply about their community and are taking action—through giving, volunteering and advocacy—to help ensure everyone in the National Capital Area has the opportunity to thrive.
Who We Are
Next-Gen is a group of young professionals—aged 40 and under—who channel their ambition into creating lasting community impact. True leadership isn’t just about personal success; it’s about investing in the community we call home.
Through financial contributions and hands-on engagement, Next-Gen leaders are investing in the communities they live in—while building leadership skills, expanding their networks, and shaping a stronger future for the National Capital Area.

Participation in Next-Gen starts at $500. Your contribution advances our impact areas: Healthy Community, Youth Opportunity, and Financial Security for neighbors across the National Capital Area. When you make your gift, please indicate that you would like to be included in Next-Gen.
You can make your gift to United Way of the National Capital Area in several ways, including:
1. Through your workplace campaign—Many workplaces across the National Capital Area participate in annual United Way NCA campaigns, making it easy to give where you work. Ask your payroll or HR department how to designate your gift.
2. Online—Visit unitedwaynca.org/donate to make your gift online and indicate that you’re interested in a Next-Gen membership.
3. Mail a check—Checks and pledge forms can be mailed to: United Way of the National Capital Area, Department 0751, Washington, DC 20073-0751.
Start with what moves you. The most impactful Next-Gen members lead with purpose—choosing causes that genuinely resonate with them, whether that’s supporting neighbors experiencing homelessness, uplifting veterans, expanding access to education, or strengthening families across our region. From there, think beyond financial support. Philanthropy can look like volunteering your time, lending your professional skills, using your creativity to raise awareness or inviting friends to support your cause in place of birthday gifts. There’s no single blueprint. The key is consistency, curiosity, and willingness to show up. In a city like Washington, D.C., where passion and purpose intersect every day, there are countless ways to embody philanthropy. Find what aligns with you–and lean in.
United Way NCA offers hands-on service and volunteer opportunities throughout the year, as well as networking experiences.
