UNITED WAY NCA PROMOTES TIMOTHY JOHNSON TO CHIEF STRATEGY AND IMPACT OFFICER

Johnson, Veteran Nonprofit Professional, Served as Vice President, Community Impact for 5 Years Prior to Promotion
Washington, DC (January 30, 2019)—United Way of the National Capital Area (United Way NCA) today announced the promotion of Timothy Johnson to Chief Strategy and Impact Officer (CSIO), effective immediately. In his new position, Johnson will serve a vital role in helping United Way NCA identify and align key opportunities that will aid the organization in its fight for the health, education and financial stability of every person in our community.
“Over the last 5 years, Timothy has been instrumental in leading our most valued community partnerships, all of which have provided positive opportunities and benefits for the residents we serve,” said Rosie Allen-Herring, president & CEO, United Way National Capital Area. “We are confident that in his new role as chief strategy and impact officer, Timothy will raise United Way NCA’s position as a community impact leader and marketing and brand ambassador throughout the eight county, two-state jurisdiction that comprises the Greater Washington DC region. We are proud of his accomplishments and value his leadership within our organization and community.”
Prior to his promotion, Johnson served as vice president, community impact for United Way NCA for 5 years. He is a veteran nonprofit and public sector professional who has dedicated most of his career to the pursuit of eradicating poverty in urban settings. Specifically, he has worked as director of income at United Way of Greater Philadelphia & Southern New Jersey, program officer at the Robin Hood Foundation, a New York City based philanthropy; and served as the director of workforce development initiatives at United Way of New York City where he managed the day-to-day workforce development activities of the agency, chiefly responsible for managing $30 million in workforce development initiatives.
Prior to entering the nonprofit sector, he worked in public service in various roles at the New York City Departments of Employment and Small Business Services, and Workforce Investment Board. He has extensive workforce and youth development experience as well as a broad background in program management and operations.
Johnson is a graduate fellow of Public Private Venture’s Workforce Leaders Academy, a recipient of Harlem YMCA’s National Black Achiever in Industry award, Streetwise Partners’ Community Vision award, and in 2016 he received the North Carolina Central University’s 40 Under 40 Alumni Award for contributions to his community. He is also an alumnus of Leadership Prince George’s Class 2016 and Leadership Greater Washington Class 2018.
Johnson holds a Bachelors of Science from North Carolina Central University and a Master of Science in Nonprofit Management from Milano The New School for Management and Urban Policy. He resides in the Greater DC area and enjoys practicing further community service through his memberships as a proud Prince Hall Freemason, Shriner and life member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.
