This asset map was developed for Prince George’s County Public Schools’ Community Schools to assist coordinators as they unlock the power of their local community. Asset mapping discovers the strengths of a community and builds on those strengths. This asset map can be used to support schools with strategic planning, identifying local partners, and connecting families to resources. It can also be used as a tool to facilitate community engagement and identify resource gaps. Lastly, it can be used to unlock existing resources and consider how to expand them as part of the community building process.
Another goal of this tool is to increase the number of residents, businesses, and local agencies who are invested in the success of schools. It is not solely a list of resources, but it is tool that can be used to build a better community where students are positively engaged in their school; families are actively involved in their children’s education; and communities are thriving places of promise where families want to live, and everyone feels safe.
This asset map includes icons that can be filtered by school and the following categories: 1) basic needs services, 2) education programs, 3) financial, legal, and other services, 4) healthcare, and 5) post-secondary education.
Your local United Way is also a resource. Feel free to contact us for assistance and additionally available resources.
