United Way of the National Capital Area (United Way NCA) is syncing up its 8th annual Do More 24 efforts with #GivingTuesdayNow – a global movement of generosity in this unprecedented time of need. Do More 24 is a social movement that brings together charities, private companies and donors who are committed to making a difference in our community. Since 2013, Do More 24 donors have supported local nonprofits and United Way NCA to raise a total of nearly $12M to benefit the community.

This year, United Way NCA is expanding its Do More 24 fundraising efforts to include programs like Project Homeless Connect and other recovery initiatives targeted at helping families impacted by COVID-19 get back on their feet. Project Homeless Connect is United Way NCA’s annual one-stop-shop resource fair for our neighbors at risk of or experiencing homelessness to access a multitude of much-needed resources. Services include providing access to social security cards, medical screenings, economic and food assistance as well as caseworkers – all in one easy to navigate the environment.

Now more than ever, programs like Project Homeless Connect are critical resources for our community. In the aftermath of the COVID-19, many of our neighbors will feel the impact months after the peak of the pandemic begins to flatten out. This year, we anticipate a greater economic impact for thousands of workers who will experience financial hardship beyond the immediate crisis. Project Homeless Connect is an opportunity for vulnerable populations to connect with much needed economic assistance and basic needs services to help them get back on track.

Together we can mobilize the giving spirit of the DMV. It takes only a single act to initiate change in a community and through a day of giving like Do More 24 we create a coalition of impact for the most pressing challenges across our region.
