65 Backpacks, One Morning
Employees at Navy Federal Credit Union partnered with United Way of the National Capital Area on Aug. 18 to stuff 65 backpacks ahead of the school year.
Navy Federal’s annual “Stuff the Backpack” volunteer event supported Thoreau Middle School in Vienna, Va.
“It’s extremely important to us, because we want to give back to the Vienna community—it’s a big part of our mission at Navy Federal to give back,” Jessica Edwards, a program manager at Navy Federal Credit Union, said. “We know what times are like in this type of economy. It may seem like something small and minute, but maybe this means an extra week of groceries for that family.”
Edwards encourages other companies to team up and support United Way NCA.
“We have a longstanding relationship with United Way. They kind of put all this together. They do all the logistics for this event,” Edwards said. “It’s important you partner with organizations like United Way, because they have a pulse on the community other companies and corporations don’t have. They know what the needs are in the community.”
